I have a commercial web app that uses a component under LGPL. Since this component has a plug in architecture, I have now created a plug for this component that use a library (LGPL). This library uses a data source which is GPL. Does this mean I have to free the source for my web app? or is it just necessary to release the source for the plug in? Thanks for any input and advice, and forgive me for my poor English. To be

I'm developing an application with the Qt open source edition. As I don't want to deliver the Microsoft Visual Visual C(++) redistributables, I'd like to use a static-linked version of Qt. The Qt licensing information says that I "should" develop with a commercial Qt license if I want to use static linking in my application, although when I use the configure -static command for building a static Qt library the command

What is the difference between the Affero General Public License and the GNU General Public License (GPL)? 回答1: Assume the following: You are developing a server side application in GPL. Now this application serves HTML and not an executable which is directly executed on your machine. That means that another guy

I'm developing an application which requires a third party framework which is under an Eclipse Public Licence (EPL). The application is a server-side commercial application which will be running on my servers. The EPL software is distributed as binaries (jar files). I'm only using the packages and am not making any contribution, i.e. not making any changes to the source. Under EPL I believe I'm not a "Contributor" nor am

Update the question so it focuses on one problem only by editing this post . There have been a few timely posts about IP security and the like, but none that I can find that specifically address an algorithm. In one of my current projects, we've decided to go the route of an offline registration key system. I imagine most of our eventual user base will be honest, so I don't think we have too much to worry about. On the other hand, I'd rather not have the casual

Lightweight, portable C++ fibers, MIT license

I would like to get ahold of a lightweight, portable fiber lib with MIT license (or looser). Boost.Coroutine does not qualify (not lightweight), neither do Portable Coroutine Library nor Kent C++CSP (both GPL). Edit: could you help me find one? :) Libtask : MIT License Libconcurrency : LGPL (a little tighter than MIT, but it's a functional library!) Both are written for C. I actually blogged about this in the past. Have a look! I hope it answers your questions. In it, I cover a number of libraries, and I was particularly interested in ones that were useful for systems programming (asynchronous

How to use an Open Source License [closed]

I'm a little unsure how the open source licensing stuff works. If I were to choose a particular open source license, what do you actually have to do to make it applicable to your software? I would imagine it would be a little more involved than just 'stating' that you're releasing your software under LGPL. And how does this 'contract' bind legally to your software? It's as simple as deciding to license your software under a particular license. This is not technically contract law, but copyright law. As the owner/licenser of your intellectual property (the source and binaries) you may license

jQuery, jQuery UI, and Dual Licensed Plugins (Dual Licensing) [closed]

OK I have read many posts regarding Dual Licensing using MIT and GPL licenses. But Im curious still, as the wording seems to be inclusive. Many of the Dual Licenses state that the software is licensed using "MIT AND GPL". The "AND" is what confuses me. It seems to me that the word "AND" in the terms, means you will be licensing the product using both licenses. Most of the posts, here on stackoverflow, state that you can license the software using one "OR" the other. JQuery specifically states "OR", whereas JQuery UI specifically States "AND". Another Instance of the "AND" would be JQGrid . Im
