Ive been looking for a good example, how to update my own developed application. So, I have an installed apk on my device and when I started it I'd like to check if any updates are exist on my server. If it does, then download from the webserver and install it. At first I have to check to my server if there are any updates. If it does then download and install it. Which is the best way for that? And anybody could show me some tutorial or maybe example? Thanks afurther to your answers Matthias Check out this link . It uses a HTTP connection in an async task to download the APK file from an URL.

Auto Patcher (Efficient Auto Updater)

I want an auto updater that detect modified files (by comparing files on the client-side and a server) and only download modified files. I also want it to give me its status lively (To show it on a process bar or something) The scenario is that there's about one thousand clients in a network, that use same application. If a new version of the application is available, they all have to get the new version. But, the bandwidth is limited, so it's not very efficient to give them a full installer each time. (Which we do currently) I searched around a little, and I found IcePatch2 . It do the exact

Auto-update a Windows Service [closed]

I am about to develop a program which will be installed and run as a Windows Service on the back-end servers (with internet access) of several clients. I do not have physical access to the servers. What I am working on is a scheme for reliably rolling out updates to the program. I have spend quite a lot of time looking for best practices for Windows Service auto-updates, but have found very little useful information. Most techniques, such as ClickOnce, seem to cater primarily for Windows Forms-based applications. My current plan is: When updates are available, have the running service download

How to make your Android app auto update

问题 I published my first app in Google Play today, woot! Once I saw my app listed in Google Play, I realized I needed to make a change and post an update. I made my code changes and incremented versionCode and versionName in the manifest file. I then built my apk, signed with the same key as the original apk submitted to Google Play. I uploaded a new apk, deactivated the original apk, then activated the new one and clicked Save. I waited a couple of hours, looked in Google Play and could see that

Best practice for autoupdates

问题 For desktop based applications, what are best practices to perform auto updates? Currently, we download all files, then copy and register (if com dll) to their respective directories. I looked at Google Chrome update method. It seems that it first downloads a zipped file into a directory, and then unzips all the files. Also, they have a setup application which seems to be used to do the update. Additionally, they create a directory mapped to update version like 1.0.154.43, but they keep the

Is it possible to implement a self-updating ASP.NET web application?

Wordpress has the capability to update itself (on admin user's request). Is it possible to implement something similar using ASP.NET? I can see web.config and bin folder causing problems. ASP.NET uses shadowcopy of dlls in your bin folder to allow you to xcopy a new set of dlls and content up to the server without those files being locked. So, dlls and web.config are not a problem. The issue will be around having the process that runs your ASP.NET site have write access to the file system. This is generally a bad idea. You should consider putting this "auto update" functionality into the hands

Best practice for writing a self-updating windows service

We need to create a windows service that has the ability to self update. Three options spring to mind, a second service that manages the retrieval, uninstallation and installation of the first service. Use of some third party framework (suggestions welcome. I believe .NET supports automatic updating for windows forms apps, but not windows services) Use of a plugin model, whereby the service is merely a shell containing the updating and running logic, and the business logic of the service is contained in a DLL that can be swapped out. Can anyone shed some light on the solution to this problem?
