Meaning of the tilde in compatibility settings values of the Windows 8.1 registry

问题 I tried to figure out how to manage compatibility settings for some older programs in an automated way. This Super User question How can I set the compatibility mode for an executable from the command line? already helped a lot pointing onto the registry key being used for compatibility settings. HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers Sadly, there is one tiny detail remaining unanswered so far. I tried to figure out what changes in application's property

Sublime Text, SublimeREPL, Clojure & Windows 8

问题 I've got both Leiningen & Clojure working on Windows 8 separately from Sublime Text (e.g. I can get a repl working in Windows PowerShell). My problem is that I can't get the SublimeREPL working in SublimeText (the REPL loads up but doesn't then do anything). Are there any simple traps that I might be missing or, failing that, are there a series of steps I could follow to troubleshoot? 回答1: Please see this SublimeREPL issue for instructions on how I got a Clojure REPL to work, at least on XP

Is it possible to share data between users in a Windows Store App?

I'm pretty sure that I know the answer to this question (A big fat NO), but is it possible to share downloaded data between the same application but multiple users (Windows login, not Microsoft Store users) in a Windows Runtime environment? The local data folder is relative to each login user, so this seems impossible at first glance. It would be a huge waste for each user to have to download all of the content for the application since it is between 700MB - 1GB of content per app. This accepted answer is outdated. It is now possible to share data between users of a given app in Windows 10, by

Can I use my existing .Net 4.0 Class Libraries on WinRT Metro Style Applications for Windows 8

问题 I just started diving into Metro Style application development and I realized that there is no framework targeted when I look at the properties of the application. So, can I use my existing .Net 4.0 Class Libraries (or previous ones) on WinRT Metro Stype Applications for Windows 8? For example, I would like to get the Autofac and use it but I am not sure if it would be a right fit. Edit I think it is actually targeting .Net Framework Core 4.5. 回答1: Whilst a number of WinRT APIs are quite

Check this post: Flash only works on approved sites. Think you'll be able to watch all those Flash-based videos using your

Can/Why Does A Hard Drive Serial Number Change

Our anti-piracy software identifies people according to their Hard Drive Serial. This I believe is a constant feature and will not change unless the user changes their primary physical drive - correct me if I am wrong? We use the WMI python module to obtain the users Hard Drive Serial Number. For 2 of our test computers the Hard Drive serial number has changed. But we haven't changed their hard drive at all. What could cause such a problem? Is our code that identifies the serial not comprehensive across windows operating systems? I did notice that this post mentions you can get the wrong

How to make Windows 8 desktop apps shown in Metro UI (like Task Manager)?

Recently I have noticed that Windows 8 Task Manager can be shown in Metro UI. The requirement is that you must set it always on top (through "Options -> Always on top" menu). After setting always on top, you can launch Task Manager in Desktop, switch to Metro, you can see that Task Manager is shown in Metro. Or you can directly launch Task Manager in Metro (by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc or Ctrl+Alt+Delete). I just wanna know how to achieve this in other apps? Other desktop apps don't have this behavior if they are always on top. Is Windows 8 Task Manager is a special app? Maybe it is a mixture of

How to copy a folder in a Windows Store App

How do you copy a folder and its contents in Windows Store Apps? I'm writing tests for a Windows Store App. The app does things with files, so a set of known files is needed. Ideally, any developer could run these tests without requiring that they do some manual setup. I assume that means test files would be checked into source control and then copied to the LocalState folder where tests could consume them (copy during ClassInitialize test phase). StorageFile has copy functions. It would be possible to to use these to recursively rebuild the folder to copy. However it's hard to believe that

Filtering a GridView in Windows 8

I currently have a GridView where the ItemsSource is set to an ObservableCollection. Updates to the underlying data are reflected in the UI without any effort on my part. Things are working well. What is the cleanest way to apply a filter to the ObservableCollection so that only certain items are displayed? Ideally I don't want to actually remove items from the ObservableCollection, nor do I want to maintain two distinct collections because it will make keeping things in sync more challenging. CollectionViewSource looked promising but the Windows Store App implementation seems to lack the
