How to design/plan for web application development?

走远了吗. 提交于 2019-12-02 17:43:38
I'm interested in learning how to design/plan for web application development, in a multiple developer team scenario. Assuming the role of "Project Manager/Lead": What "documents" are needed for successful web application development? What UML diagrams are needed and to what degree? In the design/plan phase does each - as per use case - class need to be diagrammed? How detailed (depth and breadth) should the class diagrams be? If you have any helpful book/website recommendations, please share. Follow-up (Added 11/18/09): What do coders/developers use as a guide during coding i.e. creation of

Bugzilla or Mantis? [closed]

As the title says, I'm starting one project right now, and trying to layout the infrastructure for the project (SVN, Email, Bug tracking, Online Forums, etc...) So, Bugzilla or Mantis? Corey Trager I think you'll find that your team will like either Trac or Redmine more than Bugzilla or Mantis. Both integrate nicely with Subversion. Both include wiki, forums, project management features... Quick overview: Trac : Very widely used and loved, written in python, huge community, lots of "plugins". A common complaint is that it doesn't support multiple projects out-of-the-box, but you can add a

Visual Studio Plug-in to measure time spent on Solution/Project [closed]

does anyone know of a Visual Studio (2008) Plug-in that attempts to track how long you've spent working on any given Solution or Project? I realize this would be difficult, like at work I might leave a Solution open all day, but only work on it for a couple of hours, on and off. However at home, I might only open a Solution when I'm working on it. Regardless, is there anything out there that at least attempts to track time spent? Do some/any Source Control reports achieve this? This would be a resource for me to get a rough idea of how long I've spent on a bunch of projects. cheers I don't

Recommended WPF Project Structure?

问题 I'm a stickler for good Visual Studio Solution and Project structures. I'm about to start a WPF proof of concept piece of work. Can anyone recommend some WPF Project structures they have used and found worked well? Here http://drwpf.com/blog/2007/10/01/58/ They have one recommendation which I like: Root - Pages - Controls - Resources App.xaml Where Pages, Controls and Resources are folders. Has anyone found certain structures work well / don't work well? Also I'd rather not get into a 'Model

How to create an accurate hour estimate? [closed]

What are your experiences regarding project planning and creating hour estimates for new projects? What is the approach you are using, and why has or has it not worked for you? Are there any best practices to take into account? Estimation Tasks The principles that I try to use (I don't always get the opportunity) are: Step-wise refinement 3 point estimates Risk analysis Step-wise refinement When estimating it's important to estimate at the right granularity and to continually break down and add tasks until you're confident in the estimates. Quite often, estimating highlights a lengthy,

Implementing a voting system without requiring registration

问题 I'd like to implement a voting system on my site, without having to force them to create an account. They would ultimately be voting up/down a piece of content which has a unique ID. I know that I could store entries in a table with IP/ID, but what if there are more than one user coming from the same IP? Is there a way to uniquely identify visitors without it being tied to their external ip? If created a GUID, store it in a cookie on that machine, could it be retrieved later on that same

How to select a programming language for a project? [closed]

Can anyone tell the reasons for choosing a particular programming language over others for a project. I mean does this thought cross the minds at the design phases of a project, or all this stuff is just theoretical, and in reality people use whatever languages they are conversant with? Some issues to note: Productivity of the language (including tools - IDE, debugger, etc) Employable set of people who have that particular language skills "popularity" of the language People in your organization who have the language skills difficulty in learning the language portability of the language

Class diagram examples for RPG (Role Playing Game)

Does anyone know where I can find examples of class diagrams for RP game development? Something similar to here would be quite useful. I'm not looking for things I can slavishly copy, but just for different examples that diagram various solutions to the problems I'm discovering as I try and pencil down my own classes. I know Emmanuel Deloget from GameDev.net but I'm not sure I would choose to use the hierarchy he's got there! Too much inheritance, not enough flexibility. If I was writing a text-based RPG (as I have done in the past) it would look a bit like this (though I've no time to draw up

VSS or SVN for a .Net Project? [closed]

At work, one of the head managers asked me to research on what could be the benefits of changing the current source control server (Visual Source Safe) of my project to SVN. I really don't have anything against SVN, actually I kind of dig it, but in my humble opinion, change to SVN will not bring any significant benefits to the project, and will force us to use some third-party tools to manage the source control from the Visual Studio (we develop using mostly Microsoft tools only). So, as a first step in my research, I ask you: what could be the benefits of switching from VSS to SVN? Tarkus
