I'm fairly well read in the benefits and processes of Scrum. I get the ideas on the backlog, burndown charts, iterations, using user stories, and other various concepts of the Scrum "framework". With that said... I work for a web development firm that manages multiple projects at one time, with six team members

How do I separate my executable files from my library files?

问题 I still haven't gotten an answer that I'm happy with. Please do submit some answers if you have a nice system for your Python or PHP projects. I'm having a management issue with my PHP and Python projects. They both have two kinds of code files: files that should be run in the console or web browser, and files that should be included from other files to extend functionality. After my projects grow into large namespace or module trees, it starts getting disorienting that "executable" files and

Design By Contract and Test-Driven Development [closed]

I'm working on improving our group's development process, and I'm considering how best to implement Design By Contract with Test-Driven Development. It seems the two techniques have a lot of overlap, and I was wondering if anyone had some insight on the following (related) questions: Isn't it against the DRY principle to have TDD and DbC unless you're using some kind of code generator to generate the unit tests based on contracts? Otherwise, you have to maintain the contract in two places (the test and the contract itself), or am I missing something? To what extent does TDD make DbC redundant?

What's a good way to organize projects with shared dependencies in Mercurial? [closed]

Currently, I'm moving from a legacy version control system and moving my group's project to mercurial. As one example of the kinds of code I'm moving, I have a 25+ project Visual Studio solution, containing several separate application areas that all depend on common code. Looking over Stack Overflow, the closest question I found was this one , but it merely mentioned version control. I'm looking for a bit further advice, on specific implementation techniques of using Mercurial to manage these dependencies. A simplified view of the dependencies look something like the following. (This is for

How should I structure complex projects in C? [closed]

I have little more than beginner-level C skills and would like to know if there are any de facto "standards" to structure a somewhat complex application in C. Even GUI based ones. I have been always using the OO paradigm in Java and PHP and now that I want to learn C I'm afraid that I might structure my applications in the wrong way. I'm at a loss on which guidelines to follow to have modularity, decoupling and dryness with a procedural language. Do you have any readings to suggest? I couldn't find any application framework for C, even if I don't use frameworks I've always found nice ideas by

Writing user stories for internal technical tasks [closed]

I am attempting to manage my projects a little better so I am looking at attempting to apply some of (eventually all) the features of scrum . Looking at user stories specifically the high level format seems to be: As a User I can Feature Description or Artifact is Doing Something How would I write "Upgrade the Database"? Is it simply Upgrade the Database? I think I am being thrown off as there is no specific actor/customer and that the customer is the IT department. This question already has an answer here: How do you protect your software from illegal distribution? We obviously can't block Internet access (to prevent emailing the code) because programmer's need their references. We also can't block peripheral devices (USB, Firewire, etc.) The code matters most when it has some proprietary algorithms and in-house developed knowledge (as opposed to regular routine code to draw GUIs,

Maven for other languages? [closed]

I am relatively new to the world of Java and Maven, but I couldn't imagine starting a new Java project without using Maven. The idea of providing a human-readable project model is something that I would imagine is universally desirable across many languages. This is especially true when your application relies upon numerous external libraries. Are there any other project management or build tools for languages other than Java that are similar in nature to Maven; that is, that provide a mechanism for the project maintainer to specify dependencies and build order? I know that there are no fixed rules about software version control but I have several questions. 1) How to upgrade versions correctly I have a small software that I started a while ago and since i started from scratch I started with version 0.1. As I added more functionality I have been upgrading the minor number. Now I'm in v0.5.7 (minor (.5) for new functions and revision (.7) for bug fixes and minor changes), the thing is that the program is almost complete for distribution, but now I'm "missing" several minor versions, how do you guys handle that situation? do you simply just jump the
