I am quite new to docker, so I am sure i have made some silly mistake.
I am trying to use docker to set up an environment with my required libraries and dependencies installed for c++. However, I can't seem to get the VM built.
I am running on OSX Yosemite, and my installation process was as follows:
$ brew cask install virtualbox
$ brew install docker-machine
$ docker-machine create --driver virtualbox default
$ eval "$(docker-machine env default)"
I have been able to successfully run a few examples to verify. However, I cannot run the following MWE Dockerfile:
FROM buildpack-deps:jessie-scm
RUN apt-get update && apt-get install -y --no-install-recommends \
libboost-dev
I get the following:
$ docker build .
docker build .
Sending build context to Docker daemon 2.048 kB

What could be causing these input/output errors?
回答1:
The installation of Docker on OS X is now handled by the recently released Docker Toolbox tool.
You should use that toolbox as it will install and configure the Docker dependencies for you

Well I have fixed the issue (kind of), but it seems the underlying issue has not been resolved.
In answer to the question: the root cause seems to have been a conflict with Debian's package repository.
I changed the base image from buildpacks:jessie-scm
to buildpacks:trusty
. I was having a whole range of issues with even docker's base debian packages, having fails with commands such as:
docker run debian:jessie sh -c "apt-get update && apt-get install -y cmake"
or
docker run debian:wheezy sh -c "apt-get clean && apt-get update && apt-get install -y cmake"
Moving over to Ubuntu seems to fix the issue, so it looks like maybe it is a conflict with Debian's package repositories. I could try to fix it, but Ubuntu will work fine for my purposes (may even be preferable).
