问题 how linked files in vss repository can be migrated to svn repository 回答1: I had the same problem and I was able to modify Polarion SVN Importer to detect shared files. Perhaps it would be possible to modify it further to generate SVN externals in the dump file instead of duplicating shared files. 回答2: You can use the open-source VSS2SVN project from CodePlex. Also see this answer. This utility works by checking out files from VSS then checking them back in to SVN, so it does carry over the

Alternative to VSS for a one man show (army of one?)

问题 I've been programming for 10+ years now for the same employer and only source code control we've ever used is VSS. (Sorry - That's what they had when I started). There's only ever been a few of us; two right now and we usually work alone, so VSS has worked ok for us. So, I have two questions: 1) Should we switch to something else like subversion, git, TFS, etc what exactly and why (please)? 2) Am I beyond all hope and destined to eternal damnation because VSS has corrupted me (as Jeff says) ?

VSS or SVN for a .Net Project? [closed]

At work, one of the head managers asked me to research on what could be the benefits of changing the current source control server (Visual Source Safe) of my project to SVN. I really don't have anything against SVN, actually I kind of dig it, but in my humble opinion, change to SVN will not bring any significant benefits to the project, and will force us to use some third-party tools to manage the source control from the Visual Studio (we develop using mostly Microsoft tools only). So, as a first step in my research, I ask you: what could be the benefits of switching from VSS to SVN? Tarkus

Best Practice for Git Repositories with multiple projects in traditional n-tier design

I'm making the switch from a centralized SCM system to GIT. OK, I'll admit which one, it is Visual SourceSafe. So in addition to getting over the learning curve of Git commands and workflow, the biggest issue I'm currently facing is how to migrate our current repository over to Git in regards to single or some flavor of multiple repositories. I've seen this question asked in a variety of ways, but normally just the basic..."I have applications that want to share some lower level libraries" and the canned response is always "use separate repositories" and/or "use Git submodules" without much

Get all files from VSS for a given date?

Is there a way I can ask Visual source safe to get all the files from a given date for a project? We don't use labels, so I can't roll back to a specific label and am hoping that I can somehow just call a certain date range to get the files as they existed on a specific date? Impossible? As far as I know you have to use the get command at a command prompt, not the gui. Something like this should do: ss Get "$/AFolder" -R -Vd15-03-2009;2:00a The -R option makes the get recursive and the -vd option gets the version at the specified date. You can right-click the project, choose Show History and

How can I index our internal source code?

问题 Google Code Search has indexed Subversion and Mercurial repositories, so people can search open source projects. How can I do the same for my company's repository with the least effort and without publishing our code? We have Trac (with Subversion) at our shop, but it only indexes Changesets, and we also have Visual Source Safe. 回答1: A quick Google turned up VoilaSVN but I cannot vouch for it. Edit: It also turned up OpenGrok which appears to have a lot more support for other systems. 回答2: I

问题 Visual Studio randomly crashes when adding/removing references and projects. Any thoughts why? Will installing Sp1 help? EDIT: I do not work with any addons except SourceSafe. I do most of my development in connected mode.
