Python, Tkinter: Which types of variables need to be passed as arguments to a Button command (and the functions it calls)?

Question

I have written a simple Tkinter GUI, pasted below, which allows the user to leaf through plotted examples of three types of functions -- linear, quadratic, and exponential.
