Eclipse fails to start after crash

Question

Eclipse crashed and I cannot restart it. How do I recover from the crash?

I had a similar crash and starting eclipse with -clean option did not help. I ended up deleting .metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.e4.workbench file, which fixed this problem.
