HTML Email using CSS

I\'m trying to build an HTML email using DIVs instead of tables, and I\'m quite new to CSS.

Everyones response has been great. Campaign Monitor along with http://www.email-standards.org are the best resources out their right now.

However, what I was told by a fellow developer when making my first html email - "code like its 1997".
