Yes.

You can use either:

boolean sentAppToBackground = moveTaskToBack(true);

if(!sentAppToBackground){
  Intent i = new Intent();
  i.setAction(Intent.ACTION_MAIN);
  i.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_HOME);
  this.startActivity(i);
}
