Hive date function to achieve day of week

I\'m looking for a workaround or hive date functions that gives day of the week ,

Sunday - 1
Monday - 2
Tuesday - 3
Wednesday - 4
Thursday - 5
Friday - 6
Sat

hive> select date_format('2016-12-01' ,'u');
