This should work, try this:

        {
            using (var schemaTable = reader.GetSchemaTable())
            {
                if (schemaTable != null)
                    schemaTable.DefaultView.RowFilter = String.Format("ColumnName= '{0}'", columnName);

                return schemaTable != null && (schemaTable.DefaultView.Count > 0);
            }
        }
