GitHub pages are not updating

In my case it was incorrect kramdown syntax. My code was

  {% highlight %}
  lorem lipsum
 {% endhighlight %}

Apparently you must tell kramdown the language:

  {% highlight html %}
  lorem lipsum
 {% endhighlight %}
