Removing an item from a list of lists based on each of the lists first element

Question

Given:

a = [[1,2],[3,4],[5,6],[7,8]]
b = 3

I would like to remove an item of a that has b as it\'s first item. S

for i in a[:-1]:
    if i[0]==b:
        a.remove(i)

What about this?

The output is

[[1, 2], [5, 6], [7, 8]]
