Unbearably slow android emulator — is there a fix?

I know that the topic was discussed here last year, but I am hoping that someone has since found a fix. The emulator is simply not working for me anymore. It took 15 minut

I have started using ubuntu v11 (with dual boot) ,emulator is now starting within 40sec and working without any errors ,which i have encountered in windows 7 and performance is also good.
