puma gem - Failed to build gem native extension

Question

I was getting the following error while installing puma gem

    $ gem install puma
    Fetching: puma-2.11.2.gem (100%)
    Building native extensions.  This coul

I had similar issue on OSx El Capitan. In order to fix the issue I had to do:

brew install openssl
brew link --force openssl
