You can get yourself into a single thread Deadlock with ReentrantReadWriteLock. Write locks can acquire read locks but not the other way around. The following will block indefinitely.

    ReentrantReadWriteLock lock = new ReentrantReadWriteLock();
    lock.readLock().lock();
    lock.writeLock().lock();
