Adding git branch on the Bash command prompt

I tried adding the git branch I\'m currently working on (checked-out) on the bash prompt without success.. (while keeping my current path which shows the active dir

parse_git_branch() {
     git branch 2> /dev/null | sed -e '/^[^*]/d' -e 's/* \(.*\)/ (\1)/'
}

export PS1="\u@\h \[\033[32m\]\w\[\033[33m\]\$(parse_git_branch)\[\033[00m\] $"

To reflect latest changes run following command

source ~/.bashrc
