I learned jQuery through reading a book called jQuery: Novice to Ninja. For a time, the PDF was freely downloadable, so I figured 'what the heck', but it was actually a really good book and was a very easy-to-read and pretty thorough examination of what jQuery can do for you. I recommend it!
