To solve this problem, check if there is a point of nullity. Then apply the corresponding configuration:

if(getSupportActionBar() != null){
 getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
 getSupportActionBar().setHomeButtonEnabled(true);
