Available Datasets
The following datasets are available for use with the toolbox of algorithms:
- Synthetic Dataset: Simulated ECG and pulse oximetry (photoplethysmography, PPG) signals at a range of heart rates and respiratory rates to assist with algorithm development.
- Vortal Dataset: Simultaneous ECG, PPG and oral-nasal pressure respiratory signals acquired from healthy volunteers.
- BIDMC Dataset: Simultaneous ECG, PPG and thoracic impedance signals recorded from critically-ill patients.

Respiratory rate algorithms
Research into respiratory rate algorithms has been hindered by a lack of open-source algorithms. Consequently, one aim of this project is to provide open-source algorithms to facilitate future research. As stated in the licence accompanying the source code, the algorithms are not intended to be fit for any purpose. Instead, they act as an platform from which researchers can develop algorithms.
The following resources are provided:
- Algorithm Source Code: The latest version of the toolbox of algorithms.
- User Manual: A helpful resource for new users of the toolbox.
- Github Repository: A repository of all versions of the toolbox, past and present.
A Respiratory Rate algorithm: Raw ECG and PPG signals are shown on the left. On the right are shown (from top): a reference respiratory signal, a respiratory signal extracted from the ECG, and a respiratory signal extracted from the PPG.
